I’m feeling pretty confident about LockLegion.com’s code structure and internal workings. Internally I’ve created a simple yet powerful content generation system as I’d like to see it as. I have a huge gripe about flashy sites or even just simple sites that, to put short, take too long to load. Before you say it; I’ll also admit that I too was guilty of this. This is why I’m now painstakingly doing everything right from the get go. I’m aiming to have all if not most pages load under a second or less, at least when I test them. (Server hiccups happen from time to time) I don’t want to dwell to much on this whole content generation thing though, it’s a bit technical and boring, so let’s move onto the next thing. Just keep in mind, on the inside it’s pretty grand.
My second gripe, is sites that look incorrectly and horribly mangled cross browser-wise. This is why I’ve also worked pretty hard on keeping the site to web standards. I’m going to be a huge stickler in keeping LockLegion.com both XHTML 1.1 valid and CSS Level 2.1 valid. At any time you may click on the validation links in the footer to double check for yourself. Now why should I go through all the trouble to do this? For one, it guarantees LockLegion.com will look exactly the same on all modern and mainstream browsers. That alone isn’t enough though, I also double check everything added to every page on 5 different browsers. As of writing this, LockLegion.com is planned to be 99.9% compatible on the following browsers:
Two notes on the above. I don’t own a Mac so I can only verify the PC equivalents of the above will be as compatible as possible. The second, if you don’t use any of the above or bother to update your browser I cannot guarantee compatibility support for that particular browser. Get with the times guys.
Adobe Flash, JavaScript, and Cookies will also be used. Make sure these are enabled.
Right so lets get to what you probably want to read about, Closed Beta. It should really be an Alpha but for simplicity I’m just going to call it a Beta and a Closed Beta at that. I’d like an orderly and controlled test run and smaller pool of feedback. Technically this means this group is allowed to whine the most and bombard me with suggestions and wishlists. Let’s get to know who’s invited, and if you weren’t invited, how you’ll be able to get an invite.
Invites will be delivered via private message at LockLegion.org. If not tomorrow, definitely the day after and beyond.
Priority invitation goes to the current forum staff of LockLegion.org and a few select Locks I’ve known personally over the years. Now before you kill me, there will be plenty of windows to get invites. I’ll hop on LockLegionTV either announced or unannounced when a show is going on and drop invites from time to time and if the staff at LockLegion.org is willing; through prizes, seniority, or random giveaways. (Here’s an idea for a bi-weekly prize)
Given the size of the LL, we’ll probably all be in within this month and if not Open Beta will rectify that. See it as a way to keep it localized for the time being.
